Nursing: Leaving The Line

Quality driven care and measured outcomes are essential nursing measurements of care standards, or should that just be healthcare outcomes? Across the world we are seeing nurses leave the profession, request fair pay, and also strike for minimum care standards to become legislation. These articles provide a starting point on the current challenges for nursing, and the rationale for safe staffing and reducing adverse outcomes. It does seem strange in a world of best practive, evidence based practice, and national standards why nursing is having to fight for resources that have been measured to have a direct impact on patient outcomes. How will the public view the nursing profession if strike action impacts on care provision when only basic services can be delivered even though they are fighting for patient safety?
